On my way home from Oceania, I stopped in for a quick stop in California. Now, unlike most sane people flying in and out of LAX, I decided it would be a good use of my 3.5 days to drive up to Yosemite and back!
Needless to say, after 14 hours of flying I was ready for a meal. And, Fresno, California happens to be partway through the drive north with a 100% gluten free restaurant called Casa de Tamales.
Casa de Tamales is a local family-owned Mexican restaurant specializing in
premium artisan tamales. They have a ton of dairy free options as noted below. They have vegetarian tamales. Plus, their rice and beans are also vegan!
I tried there different tamales! The three featured from left to right include
- Green Tomatillo Chicken served with roasted corn salsa,
- Shredded Beef stewed in a spicy guajillo sauce and served with guacamole, and
- New Mexico Chile Pork topped with red sauce and served with grilled pineapple salsa.
Each tamale tastes very different, so it may take a few visits to determine which one is your favorite. The Green Tomatillo Chicken is my favorite, followed by the shredded beef!
One thing is for sure, all the tamales are prepared with the same high quality. They have a consistent texture and feel. They’re also filling and a great value. I really couldn’t finish more than two!
The restaurant has a cute family run feeling. Everyone was friendly and willing to answer all my questions about my other dietary needs. There are many dairy free options if that is a concern for you as well. And, they’re menu also labels options for those following a vegan and vegetarian diet.
Overall, this restaurant is a great celiac friendly find if you happen to be near Fresno, CA! And, here’s one picture from my trip to Yosemite. During the National Park Service’s centennial year, it is the perfect time to find your park!
Happy Travel Tuesday!
