A Celiac at the Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue

A Celiac at the Hoop-Dee-Doo RevueThe Hoop-Dee-Doo Musical Revue is one of the longest standing traditions at Disney World. The show is practically the same as when it began in 1974, except for the part where everyone would stand on their table. (Today, it’s a safety hazard to do so.)

For our family, it’s one of our favorite traditions. This show and family dining experience is where my mom enjoyed her 18th birthday. Plus, my sister has even been the bell ringer to let everyone in for dinner. This year we took on a new challenge, our first time there since my celiac diagnosis.

To find the Hoop-Dee-Doo, you can take a ferry from the Magic Kingdom to Fort Wilderness! There are also many bus options from other locations as well.

Of course, I knew I would enjoy the show! It’sΒ filled with upbeat musical numbers, and many of the songs you’ll already know or have pretty simple lyrics. My favorite bit is when they sing about various audience member’s hometowns. For my own Beantown, they sang “You come from Massachusetts, we’re elated. Although, your footballs may be deflated.” It was a pretty big hit with the audience too. πŸ™‚

Pioneer Hall

Now, the food may be simple at Pioneer Hall, but it’s pretty tasty. My sister raves about the strawberry shortcake. And, to go with the theme all meals are served family style.

Everyone’s food… except mine. Those of us with celiac disease and/or food allergies are treated well at Pioneer Hall. As always, you’ll want to indicate your dietary needs under the Special Requests section of the online reservation. However, to my pleasant surprise, when I arrived at my table, there was already a separate salad all ready for me!

My own personal salad!

And, before I had a chance to bite in to my meal, the chef was already at my table. He’s pretty prompt because he already knows the table numbers for all the food allergy parties. Plus, he wants to reach each party before the show begins. They were so helpful with my meal. My additional cinnamon allergy actually made some of the sauces difficult, so I received my own salmon. (I think I was the only person in the place with salmon.)

My baked potato!

While nothing special, it was filling and safely prepared. Plus, my meal was equivalent to everyone else. I found the corn to be a little bland, however the baked potato was surprisingly tasty. Once I bit in, it was easy to taste the flavor of the salt on the outside with each bite. (Most people receive mashed potatoes featured above.)

I finished off my meal with a bowl of fruit. TheyΒ also have quite a few allergy friendly desserts, including: Enjoy Life cookies and dairy free ice cream.Β A Celiac at the Hoop-Dee-Doo Revue

Overall, it was a fun evening to spend with my family, and I’m glad this was a tradition that was easy to carry over despite my celiac diagnosis. I love how proactive they were about reaching all the food allergies and they did a great job explaining how the food would be prepared. (Side note: Like all Disney restaurants the kitchen does contain gluten ingredients, but they do work hard to avoid cross-contact.)

This will be my only Disney Review to post on a Friday. Beginning this June, I’ll return to my Magical Monday series, where you can read about all my Disney dining experiences from this trip. Here are a few sneak peaks from my birthday dinner at Le Cellier in EPCOT.

Le Cellier in Epcot (GF, DF, EF)

What a decadent appetizer! It’s also gluten, dairy, and egg free. :)

Babycakes NYC Birthday Cake (GF and Vegan)

Erin McKenna’s bakery delivered a gluten, dairy, and egg free cake as well!

To all my Fiesta Friday friends, I hope you’re gearing up for a fabulous weekend! I can’t wait to see what y’all brought to the party. I’ll be bringing some homemade food again next week!

Have a fabulous weekend, y’all!
