Farmer’s Keep in Philly- Celiac and Food Allergy Friendly

In keeping with tradition, I headed down to Philadelphia for Halloween weekend.ย This year I was a minion. ๐Ÿ™‚

It’s always great to return to a familiar city, and this weekend, there was a new spot I just had to try- Farmer’s Keep. It opened up in the center of the city, so it’s super easy to find. And, it’ll draw you in with it’s earthy decor out on the street.

I was excited to try out this place because it’s rare to find a dedicated dairy and egg free place that isn’t vegan as well. But, Farmer’s Keep is simply celiac and food allergy friendly.ย

How Cool Is This!

And, best of all the food turned out to be so much more flavorful than I expected.ย They use fresh flavors and ingredients, but it doesn’t seem like “health food” that I’ve found at so many dedicated gluten free establishments. Instead, Farmer’s Keep simply serves good food.ย Farmer's Keep is a gluten, dairy, nut, and shellfish free restaurant with mouthwatering flavors. It’s served market style. You’ll have the opportunity to pick salads, sides, and proteins. And, then you pay by the weight, so load up on salad if you want a cheaper meal. Honestly, every dish sounded delicious to me, but you can see some of the options below!

I didn’t have time to try it all, but I loved everything I tried. My Green Goodness Salad was light and refreshing, the perfect way to begin a meal. For my sides, I had the pumpkin and cranberry quinoa. It’s fall flavors were the right touch for this time of year. And, I was impressed that the dish wasn’t over seasoned or too heavy. I also tried the carrots and parsnips, which were a new dish this week. I love parsnips, and truly appreciate how the menu shifts to the flavors of the seasons. Finally, the protein options are well seasoned and juicy. The use of gluten free beer for the beer and brats brings back a classic dish for anyone with celiac as well. Honestly, I had zero complaints about my meal, and that’s a rare one for me.

My first meal at Farmer’s Keep! :)

There isn’t much to change at this restaurant. While the menu is not huge, there is certainly enough options to allow you to pick foods that meet your dietary preferences as well. And, I found my meal to be reasonably priced. It came out to around $12 and I had a large selection of food to fill me up for the day. I personally chose a lot of heavy things, especially extra quinoa, so if you’re in the mood for salad, it’s definitely easier to make a cheaper meal here as well!

Taste the Rainbow

Lastly, the staff here was welcoming and very helpful. They answered all my questions about the establishment and all the ingredients in various dishes.ย Their transparency and friendly mannerism was a breath of fresh air. ๐Ÿ™‚

Recap

This is by far my new favorite restaurant in Philly! I love how many food allergies it addresses, and all the food I tried is tasty. I can’t wait to bring my friends back here with me. My only con would be that it’s only open on the weekdays, so weekend visitors might miss out on this dining experience.
