Three Fruity Halloween Treats! (GF, V)

I love my Halloween candy, but these fruity halloween treats are the perfect appetizer for a party, or even to make your dinner a bit more festive! Even better, all three of these recipes are celiac friendly (aka: gluten free) AND free of the top 8 allergens! (Always check the ingredients and protocols for the products you choose to purchase.)

Get ready for Halloween with these fruity Halloween Treats!

Treat #1: Pumpkins!

This treat was made by the chef at my grandma’s assisted living home, which has become much better at cross-contact after talking with my mom. (Yeah, she’s pretty cool.) Anyway, all you need for these pumpkins are tangerines and celery!

Tangerine & Celery Pumpkin Patch

Ingredients

  • Tangerines
  • Celery

Procedure

  1. Peel Tangerines.
  2. Cut celery into small rectangular “stems.”
  3. Place stem in the center of the peeled tangerine.
  4. Serve!

Treat #2: A Fruity Candy Corn

I came up for the idea for this from Pinterest of course! The original pin called for bananas, cantaloupe, and pineapple. However, I couldn’t find a whole cantaloupe. And, in our house, we don’t buy pre-cut fruit due to cross-contact concerns. Therefore, I substituted the cantaloupe with oranges for my skewers, which provided an even more vibrant color to this tasty treat!

Ingredients

  • White Fruit: Bananas, Apples
  • Orange Fruit: Tangerines, Oranges, or Cantaloupe
  • Yellow Fruit: Pineapple
  • Wooden Skewers

Procedure

Cut your white fruit in the shape of a triangle, your orange fruit in the shape of a trapezoid, and your yellow fruit in the shape of a larger trapezoid. (It’s easiest if you line up the fruit as you cut!)

  2. Place on a skewer, in the following order: yellow, orange, THEN white. (You may make final cutting adjustments again!)

Treat #3: Sorbet-Filled Pumpkin

This final treat was also Pinterest-inspired, although the stems were my idea! And, while it involves a few more steps, the pictures will do all the explaining you need. Note: my jack-o-lantern designs may not be the most elegant, BUT they’re festive nonetheless.

Ingredients

  • Oranges
  • Kiwi
  • An orange sorbet (or ice cream) that meets YOUR allergy needs: mango, orange, etc.

Procedure

  1. Balance the orange to see which way it stands up straight. Then, cut a small piece off of the top of the orange.

Phew! Now, that’s all the Halloween appetizers that I’m prepping this year! (And, none of them have a pumpkin in them. That will have to be next year’s goal.)

Now, I want to hear from you! What are you (or your kids) dressing up as for Halloween?! What’s your favorite Halloween treat?! If you let me know, I just might add it to my “Gluten Free Spooky Treats” Pinterest board

As always, Happy Cooking! And, best wishes have a spooky (and safe) Halloween!
