Candy Corn Cupcakes!

Hi y’all! We’re keeping it short and sweet this Friday! I had family in town all week, and we had a party. To top it off, my dogs have been waking me up at 4 am AFTER I partied all night. It’s not a good combination.

We went apple picking too! It was beautiful outside!

Of course, I’m still pumped about Halloween. I’ll be headed down to Philly, and we’re going to a haunted house this year! 👻

Have you been to the Jack-O-Lantern Spectacular in Rhode Island?!

Now, on to the food! I got the idea for these candy corn cupcakes from Jo-Ann. They made the base orange though, which drove me crazy, since the bottom of candy corn is yellow. So, I remade them to better represent the candy!

Candy Corn Cupcakes

Yellow, Orange and White, just like candy corn! :)

As you can tell, they’re super messy, and I recommend using a bigger tip. However, my favorite part of this Halloween idea is that you can use any vanilla cupcake recipe you want, and it’s pretty easy to get yellow and orange colors using natural dyes. 🙂

Here’s a super short (and simple recipe) just in case you really need one. It’s intentionally nonspecific so you can make it fit your food allergy needs. My cupcakes are gluten free and vegan!

  1. Prepare your favorite vanilla cupcake and add yellow food dye to the batter until it is truly yellow. When these bake you do NOT want any brown on the outside, so be sure that they don’t burn.

Cupcakes in the oven means there is a mouthwatering smell wafting through the house.

Remove the paper to see the yellow all the way through. You could also cook them in a greased tin instead of using paper cups.

  2. While the cupcakes are cooking make some buttercream frosting. Dye half of the frosting orange by using orange dye or a combination of red and yellow dye.

    Red + Yellow = Orange

  3. After the cupcakes cool, frost the bottom of the cupcake with orange frosting using a large round tip. Then use white frosting for the top. You’ll want it to come to a tip at the end.

  4. Enjoy (because even the messiest of cupcakes are tasty)!

I’m of course brining these Halloween goodies to Fiesta Friday, my favorite party in the blogosphere. Many thanks to this week’s co-hosts: Judi @ cookingwithauntjuju and Indira @ I’ll Cook, You Wash.

Have a fabulous weekend, and happy cooking!
