Headed to Adelaide, South Australia?! The city prides itself on not originating a convict colony. My favorite bit is that it’s a square mile surrounded by parkland. However, many shoppers love Rundle Mall- the pedestrian shopping street.
Adelaide Hills is known for it’s wineries, so that’s certainly a spot to check out. And, Kangaroo Island is only a day trip away! Yet, within he city, everyone likes Rundle Mall. While shopping isn’t exactly my thing, I found four spots around Rundle Mall that are right up my (celiac friendly) alley!
Celiacs are in luck, most of Haigh’s Chocolates products are gluten free! Founded in 1915 in Adelaide, Haigh’s Chocolate is one of the pride and joys of this town. You’ll want to check on individual products, but any product labelled gluten free is made on machinery without gluten as well!
As for the dairy free folks, many of the dark chocolates do not contain milk. However, all chocolates are processed on machinery that contain milk, which means there may be traces of milk present in all of Haigh’s Chocolate!
Jonny’s Sweet & Salty popcorn is gluten AND dairy free! I personally always bought this product from the grocery store. My favorite bits of this company- it’s a (local) South Australian brand, and it’s “wickedly delicious!”
Located right off of Rundle Mall, you can read all about this spot in last week’s post. Sneak Peak: It involves a lot of juices!
Did you know that Skittles and Starbursts aren’t free because they’re made with wheat starch in Australia?! That certainly came as a surprise to me when I moved down under!
Fortunately, Blackeby’s located right off of Rundle Mall by Raw & Real sells candies imported from the USA and UK.
This means you can still buy gluten free Skittles and other candies from the US! (And, you’ll know if they meet your allergy needs, or you can read the packaging!)
Finally, if you’re at Rundle Mall, you’re close to Adelaide’s Zoo and Botanical Gardens so give those a look. The Botanical Garden is free and the perfect spot for a picnic!
I’m also linking this post up to Fiesta Friday because a few of y’all have asked what I’ve been up to in Australia, and I thought this would be a nice overview! Thank you so much to this week’s co-hosts- Josette @ thebrookcook and Lily @ little sweet baker.
