Happy (almost) Super Bowl Sunday!
Hopefully you saw Budweiser’s Best Bud commercial, which is heart-wrenching as always. Now, in my kitchen, I’ve been getting ready for the Super Bowl with a little bit of decorating!
For my friends with celiac disease, I used two new products to decorate these cookies: Satin Ice Fondant and Wilton’s Shape-N-Amaze. Satin Ice Fondant is gluten, dairy, and nut free. Additionally, I contacted Wilton to confirm that the Edible Decorating Dough is gluten free, but it’s actually made in a gluten free facility (as of December 2013).
The first step to decorating was to bake cookies. I used chocolate chip because that’s what I had in the house, but I recommend a sugar cookie (or even a cupcake). Once the cookies came out of the oven, I used a diamond and a circle cookie cutter, both of which my sister gave me for Christmas. (Thanks Bri!) Then I rolled out the fondant the best I could. Since I don’t have a rolling pan, I used the side of a glass and measuring cup to help me out!
After cutting out the appropriate shape of fondant, I spread buttercream icing (GF, DF, EF) on to the cookie before applying the fondant. Since I didn’t have a mixer, I had to whip the icing by hand, which proved to be a nice little work out. I saved the leftover buttercream icing to decorate the cookies, as we’ll see below!
For some of the cookies, I dyed the fondant first. For red and green, I simply used red and green dye respectively. For a deeper blue, I used a mixture of blue and purple. Lastly, for brown, I used cocoa powder. Be sure to mix the dye in thoroughly because you need less than you think!
Once all the cookies had a base layer of fondant, I made a bunch of footballs with the brown diamonds. Drew a Seahawk, Patriot, and a patriot on the smaller colored circle. Then, I built a field on the two larger cookies.
Super Bowl Cookies
I already ate one of the cookies, and I must admit the fondant tastes pretty good. On the other hand, I always love the taste of sugar. 🙂
And of course, I am bringing these cookies to the Anniversary Addition of Fiesta Friday, where they’ll serve as both a dessert and a celebratory treat. While unfortunately, I’ll be on an airplane during the actual Super Bowl, I’m glad that I’m able to share these treats with all of you!
Happy Super Bowl Weekend Y’all! Go Pats!
P.S: My sister also gave me the decorating kit for Christmas! Thanks Bri!
