My family LOVES mushrooms. It’s crazy because we all came to this realization on our own. My favorite way to integrate mushrooms into a burger is through the bun. In my farm stand burger, I use two portobello mushrooms to sandwich the burger! However, this can be a bit slippery, and it’s not up everyone’s alley.

Another great option is to use a mushroom as the burger, which is great for all my vegan friends! This recipe is simple, requiring a simple marinade. So without further ado, let’s check out the recipe. It’s filled with pictures this week!

Vegan Portobello Mushroom Burger

Allergens: Celiac friendly and free of the Big 8!

Ingredients

  • ½ cup of balsamic vinegar
  • 2 tbsp. olive oil
  • 1 ½ tsp. minced shallots
  • 1 ½ tsp. minced garlic
  • Ziplock Bag
  • Bun of your choice (GF & Allergy Friendly)
  • Optional: Earth Balance or Butter (if you can have dairy!)

Procedure

Note: The burger will need to marinate for 4 hours.

Shake, shake, shake!

The Vegan Portobello Mushroom Burger Marinate for FOUR hours, flipping sides half way through. This should be done in a refrigerator.

Marinate on BOTH sides! (It’s easiest if you place the Ziplock in a bowl.)

I need to make sure my bun is gluten free, allergy friendly, etc. BUT, for those without dietary restrictions, they can butter their bun and add cheese!
