First off, welcome to GF Life 24/7’s new home! Now that you’re here, we’re going to head over to Fiesta Friday because this week I’m co-hosting with Mila @ milkandbun. And, it’s going to be a lively party! More details on that below. For now, let’s start baking!

Three Fruity Halloween Treats (GF, V)

Three Fruity Halloween Treats! (Gluten Free and Vegan)

So how are we going to make Halloween 2015 the best one yet?! Well, my friend and I are working on a new Disney duo costume. And, this year we’re going to create even more festive treats. We’re starting off with these vampire cookies.

Vampire Cookies! Scary or cute? It all depends upon who is your favorite vampire.

Vampire cookies are quite popular throughout the web. The best guide I found was a video by Geeks of Doom. What makes my vampire cookies even more special?! They meet the needs of multiple food allergies with my delicious chocolate chip cookies! I even included links to products that will allow my vegan friends to modify this recipe.

Without further ado, let’s head to the kitchen!

And, now for the printable recipe!

Everything You Need to Make Vampire Cookies

* You’ll also need a frosting bag or a small baggie with a hole cut in the end to work as a frosting bag!

Procedure

  1. Bake your cookies. Here’s the recipe that I used.  Give them plenty of time (at least one hour) to cool.

We made lots and lots of cookies!

  2. Prep your remaining ingredients.
    • Blanch the almonds (if they came whole). To do this place them in boiling water for 60-90 seconds, once strained they should pop right out of their shell. Pat the almonds dry with a paper towel.

      Blanched Almonds

    • Dye half of the frosting red.
    • Place the red frosting in one frosting bag, and the white frosting in another frosting bag.
  3. Cut your cookies in half.

I love the sound of a cookie splitting in half.

  4. Trace the arc of the cookie with red food dye, and add a dot behind it for an extra marshmallow.

You can use a ziplock as a frosting bag!

The dot in the back is for a marshmallow that will stabilize the cookie sandwich.

  5. Place the marshmallows down on the red frosting!  This should take approximately six mini marshmallows. However, all you need to do is make sure that you have two centered front teeth. The number of marshmallows is insignificant.

You’ll need mini marshmallows, the regular sized ones are far too big!

    Let them have teeth!

  6. Cut almond slivers/quarters.

    Slicing the Almond

  7. Squeeze white frosting onto the outer sides of your two front teeth (aka: marshmallows). Attach the almond slivers. These are your fangs, so you want the pointed end facing downward!

    Ta da!

  8. Let the vampire cookies dry before eating them. Enjoy!

Edward Cullen will be jealous of your masterpiece.

Easy, right?! My friend and I were quite convinced these would be one of those cases where you see something cute online, but end up producing an absolute mess. I’m proud to report that these came out just fine on our first try. Plus, while most cookie sandwiches use two cookies by cutting these in half, you’re treat is actually a reasonable serving size.

Ideas for non-food treats from FARE

Lastly, if you’re handing out candy to trick-or-treaters, please consider participating in the Teal Pumpkin Project! This project supports kids with food allergies. All you need to do is provide some non-food treats in another bowl, and put a sign/teal pumpkin outside your door. This simple action could make a child’s night! 🙂

Happy Cooking, and have a wonderful weekend!
